Never Heard of Harlan? Here’s what you should know:

Harlan Ellison (1934-2018) is an American writer known for his charismatic, passionate, and controversial personality through written work and the way he carries himself. With a total of 146 award winnings and nominations (including but not limited to 8 Hugo Awards, 4 Nebulas, 5 Bram Stokers, and the SFWA’s Grand Master award), Harlan created a significant name for himself among 1,700 works (and counting) in multiple communities.

Writing is not all this literary giant has done, however. Harlan took place in many protests that benefited the ERA alongside joining Martin Luther King Jr. in the second and third marches from Selma to Montgomery (1965). HE has also been known to help out a poor fellow in need, sparing a few bucks or getting in the way of physical harm, when given the chance.

Some of his best works include the Star Trek teleplay “The City on the Edge of Forever”, his story “A Boy and His Dog” (later adapted to film with L.Q. Jones), the short story “ I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”, and his anthology series “Dangerous Visions”. Harlan has also made appearances On The Simpsons, Scooby Doo: Mysteries Incorporated, and Babylon 5 by J. Michael Straczynski.
